Winter Whites

& A Good Yarn...

Knitted pillows in paled-out hues render a soft textured look.

Let's make a Winter bed for the front window. Instead of doing white white, let's use an offwhite soft color.

Start with Bella Notte's "Champagne" Linen in "Homespun." This open weave linen gives a cozy, soft texture. Perfect for those Winter nights.

First we need to stuff the duvet with a good feather down insert. We like a lighter weight for California weather.

For the top of the bed use two Euros in the "Champagne" Homespun linen.

The fun part is adding all of these wonderful knitted pillows in various shades of white and off white.

The pillows are backed in vintage linens, which means you can show off either side.

This one is too beautiful! The details are unbelievable.

Should we add some velvet to the mix? Why not? Bella Notte's velvet Champagne looks great with everything.

Ahhh! For the last, best piece. We added a one-of-a-kind knitted throw blanket backed in vintage linen.

This creamy Winter bed with all the knits and different textures says COZY!

Take any chair and make a few changes for Winter.

Add a textured pillow for a fresh new look.

Lighten up your living room for Winter. Throw an old linen rug over a coffee table to get a minimalist look for the season. A simple piece of driftwood can be beautiful.

For your sofa lighten it up with natural linen and knitted pillows.

Different textures add dimension and color.

A knot blanket from Matteo covers this over sized chair. The nubby knit pillow adds a layer of warmth.

For a different look try a little bit more color with this mustard, hand blocked pillow from India.

Simple, Natural, Beauty...

Freshly cut branches from Liquid Amber trees are perfect for Fall decorating.

Cut stems at an angle and slice up the bottom of the branch to absorb water. Keep the water fresh and your bouquet should last for several days.

Fall Colors Create the Season...

Vintage, distressed, yellow bench mixes well with rich Fall colors like these rugs.

One Sofa, So many looks!

The looks are endless when you start with a fabulous sofa.. Like this antique, slip covered Chippendale. White linen goes a long way for versatility.

How to Design Your Dream Bed...

Let's start from the bottom up..

First a great sheet. (shown is Legna by SDH)

We like to use a natural colored bed skirt in Linen that goes with everything.

Picking a color is hard for us because we have so much to choose from, so we let a customer choose a color and she picked "Cypress" by Bella Notte Linens. A good color for this time of year. (shown here is the Quilted Coverlet in "Cypress.") This is a great base for your bed layers.

Susan shows how to properly fill a duvet. Start with a corner of the insert and carefully guide it into your duvet making sure it reaches the in corners on both sides. Having another person help you is great but you can do it by yourself.

It's a hard sometimes to get the duvet in but practice makes perfect. Susan is now buttoning up the duvet. The button side should go on the bottom.

The Duvet shown in Crocheted Linen is beautiful folded at the end of the bed and shows the details of the duvet.

Now for the Euro pillows! We picked two Euro's that match the duvet.

And added a third Euro in a different fabric, but same color to add depth of color and interest.

Next are the sleeping pillow cases in Satin. Satin holds the dye more intensely creating a deeper color.

Adding a Bolster body pillow in Silk Velvet also adds to your luxurious bed. Why not?

An optional piece would be a Neck Roll pillow in "Celeste."

And of course draped at the bottom of the bed is a Personal Throw blanket in "Sophia." The patch work design really brings al the pieces together.

Vintage glass and silverware were used as an image for the "Contents" page..

The spread starts with an image of the back yard and then some shots of the front garden patio.

This horse is the "Big Bad Boy" of the front entry way. We love him! He's a circa 1870 weather vane from New England. Below are antique decoys from the East coast. Following are detail shots of the living room. Susan loves to stack her collection of Navajo rugs.

The pair of old doors adds rich texture and interest to the living room. John Robshaw pillows are seen on the sofa (available at the store.) Drift wood is used all over Susan's house as sculptures, creating natural, casual beauty. We're all about coastal living.

Here are some detail shots of the family room and kitchen area. Vintage items and antiques mixed with new.

What's New With Blue Springs Home..

This bed done in the new "Charcoal" grey is Bella Notte at it's best! The "Ruby" quilted velvet pillows really pop! The rich, greys of "Charcoal" are a great base, mixing well with all the Bella Notte colors.

Our new John Robshaw bed is really cool! The Indian patterns in pink and the new cotton duvets are perfect for the coming summer. This is part of the new Robshaw collection for Spring 2010.

We did our Matteo bed in "Vintage Linen" in the color "Off White." Sleeping in this beautiful bed has been described by our customers as "heavenly."

Drift wood can be used in many artistic ways.
Owner to Blue Springs Home Susan Ellison loves to put them around the store and her own home as natural art pieces. Our in-house creative decor stylist Tania Taddeo made this organic chandelier out of drift wood, sea shells and rope. Any lover of wood, nature and art will love this hanging sculpture. These have been going out the door almost as fast as we can get them in.

Aww! This baby crib is so sweet! The qulited, linen bumper is in "Pebble," a newer Bella Notte color. It's really soft and versatile. The knitted pink baby blanket washes beautifully and comes in all the Bella Notte colors.

Our front window for this week is getting all of the attention with the new John Robshaw pillows and quilts. The vibrant colors are totally eye-catching!

Susan loves this vintage Buddha that just came in. He is so peaceful and meditative. "Namaste" to all!

John Robshaw Visits Blue Springs Home

We love John Robshaw... and his bedding line...

This is a collage made from "ELLE DECOR" and "HOUSE BEAUTIFUL"magazine clippings for John Robshaw. Our in-house stylist Tania put it together just in time for his visit to Blue Springs Home.

Owner of Blue Springs Home, Susan Ellison is seen here with John as they discuss the latest catalogue. John is a believer in visiting the stores that carry his line. He appreciates our feedback and suggestions for new product. John told us all about his new ideas for next season. It sounds fantastic!

We put this colorful bed together for Johns visit. We used old Afghan rugs and fabric pieces to compliment his line. The quilt on the bed is a vintage french quilt that John seemed to really like. (left to right- Lisa, Susan, Stephanie and John)

John Robshaw fabrics have inspired us to bring in more old ethnic pieces, which Susan loves.

According to John, in regards to creative influence, "Nothing is off limits. Everything is fair game."

John spoke amongst a panel at the famous Pacific Design Center in L.A. on how he launched his career in textiles. He made it very clear that Interior Designers helped bridge him from print to textiles. Speakers included Joan Weissman who started her career in pottery that led to textiles/rugs and Christopher Farr of the UK, a well known textile/rug designer. The event was held at the fabulous Thomas Lavin showroom. The discussion was very interesting and helpful to aspiring artists. --The main lesson was to -follow your artistic dreams!

John Robshaw received a Master of Arts in Print Making which led to experimentation with textiles and fabrics. Many successful artists started their career with a classical background in fine arts. Coincidentally Susan Ellison started her career in textiles and collecting antiques at an early age too. (Stephanie shown with John Robshaw at the Pacific Design Center.

You can see the Indian influence in the bold colors and intricate designs on these pillows. John has a close relationship with the sewers and blockers at his factory in India. Some are small groups of women that hand sew his materials.

This yellow mixes well with this seasons collection. Blue Springs Home is thrilled to carry this line in our store. Thanks for coming by John!

Susan Brown Paintings...

Owner and Interior Designer Susan Ellison of Blue Springs Home fell in love with Susan Brown's original, innovative artwork back in 2002. Brown's one-of-a-kind paintings compliment any decor, from contemporary to romantic. This is a new painting that Susan just brought in. This small to medium size is a good size to work with in any room.
